Good luck to Prima pupil Anna Farren who is performing tonight at the Macrobert Arts Centre in Stirling, with Ballet West. The Edinburgh Associates are performing together in a ‘curtain raiser’ for the company’s performance of Giselle.
Inspiration for the ballet, which was premiered in Paris 1841, came from two ghost stories - Victor Hugo's poem Phantoms and Heinrich Heine's On Germany. It has become the epitome of ballet romanticism and tells the story of a peasant girl named Giselle, who dies of a broken heart after discovering her lover is betrothed to another. The Wilis - a group of supernatural women who dance men to death - summon Giselle from her grave. They target her lover for death, but Giselle's great love frees him from their grasp.
Well done Anna we are so proud of you!
